On June 1, the Usher of the Black Rod asked me to sing a piece called "Rise Again" (you may have heard The Rankins' recording of this piece before) at a memorial service for former parliamentarians held in the Senate. On June 1, the Usher of the Black Rod asked me to sing a piece called "Rise Again" (you may have heard The Rankins' recording of this piece before) at a memorial service for former parliamentarians held in the Senate. The Ottawa Catholic School Board Chamber Choir and I perform the song about 36 minutes into the recording at this link.
The Choir invited me to their spring performance, "Give Us Hope", later that evening. Under the direction of Mrs. MaryAnn Dunn and several other dedicated, talented musicians, the choir performed a diverse and entertaining repertoire of music. I really enjoyed the concert, appreciated the invitation, and hope to sing with the choir again soon!
The next day, I returned to the Senate to perform with the Central Band of the Canadian Forces at a ceremony commemorating Canada's D-Day veterans. Singing "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream" in front of an audience largely made up of some of Canada's most decorated heros was a memorable, profound honour.
The whirlwind music-week ended for me Wednesday evening, where I had the privilege of performing at the retirement dinner of The Honourable Senator Norman K. Atkins.
I feel so lucky to have these chances to perform. Thank you to those who offer me opportunities to share music.
